A special Charter, which recognises Woking Borough Council's commitment to developing and supporting its local councillors, was presented to the Mayor of Woking, Cllr Bryan Cross, during a Council meeting last night (Monday 25 February).

Council makes a positive step towards battery recycling

Local residents are being encouraged to make a positive contribution to the environment by recycling their old batteries at the new battery recycling facility that is located at the Civic Offices in Woking.
A red and black bin, in the shape of a large battery, has been installed in the Civic Offices and is located just inside the main entrance.

Young people find out more about democracy

Young people from Woking High School were given an insight into democracy and what working life is like at a local authority on Wednesday (20 February), when they spent the day at Woking Borough Council meeting senior members of staff and job shadowing officers across the organisation.

Views sought on draft planning guidance

Local people who are keen to have a say in the way that residential developments and house extensions are built in the future are being invited to consider a draft planning document that will be available from this Friday (22 February 2008).
The draft Outlook, Amenity, Privacy and Daylight Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) sets out guidance on how to achieve suitable outlook, amenity, privacy and daylight in new residential developments and house extensions, whilst safeguarding those attributes of adjoining residential areas.

Woking rises to the challenge for Sport Relief

Woking's street cleaning target smashed

Woking's streets and public spaces are cleaner than they have been in several years, thanks to ongoing efforts by Woking Borough Council and its environmental services partner, Serco.

Surf's up at Woking's Pool in the Park

Woking residents will be able to grab a board and ride the waves at Woking's Pool in the Park on Sunday (24 February 2008) when the venue hosts the UK's first indoor surfing lessons.
The special sessions, which will cost just £1, are being organised by the Everyday Swim project as part of its "Try something new day". The event runs from 11.30am until 4pm on Sunday and, in addition to surfing, it will give local people the chance to have a go at activities such as diving, synchronised swimming and riding sea scooters (a light and efficient personal water propeller).

Existing bus pass holders reminded to get on board

Woking residents, who are existing bus pass holders, are being reminded to send back their completed application forms for new passes in order to benefit from the soon-to-be introduced national concessionary fares scheme.

Byfleet residents to rally round for litter pick

Residents of Byfleet will join forces with Woking Borough Council, the Council's environmental services partner, Serco, and Surrey Police on Saturday 23 February 2008 to tidy up the area and ensure that it remains a pleasant place for everyone to enjoy.
During the morning, representatives from the Byfleet Amenities Group and Byfleet Cubs and other resident volunteers will don gloves and high visibility jackets for the litter pick, which will focus on tidying up the areas around Plough Green and Oyster Lane.

Good vibrations at Woking Leisure Centre

Members of the Evolve Fitness Suite Team at Woking Leisure Centre were on hand today (Tuesday 12 February) to help customers `vibrate' their way to fitness, by demonstrating the gym's newest piece of high-tech equipment - the Galileo vibration plate.
